Correct Copyright Default

1 Initial Problem

The current default for licence attribution is "Own Copyright Information" which is not correct in the legal sense. The default needs to be "All rights reserved". "Own Copyright Information" is just another option in case an author wants to put a file under a personal defined licence (which is not really recommended).

2 Conceptual Summary

• With 5.4 we introduce the new default "All rights reserved" as default setting.
• All objects with "Own Copryright Information" selected but without an entry in the following input are automatically set to the new default "All rights reserved" (see chap 4).
• All objects with "Own Copyright Information" selected and a following entry are kept as they are.
• The option "Own Copyright Information" can be removed for new created objects in metadata administration (requires implementation of Persistent Storage of Copyright Information where support for outdated licences will be introduced.

3.1 List of Affected Views

3.2 User Interface Details

• A new radio button with value "All rights reserved" should be added on top of the radio buttons. This option is the new default value.
• The option "Own Copyright Information" is no longer enabled per default. The following text area should only be shown if radio button is toggled.

4 Technical Information

"Own Copyright Information" is default of the current radio button list - and therefore preselected. But objects without text input after "Own Copyright Information" do not have an entry in the database. Therefore, switching to a new default does not require a database update step.

8 Implementation

The option "Own Copyright Information" can be removed for new created objects in metadata administration (requires implementation of Persistent Storage of Copyright Information where support for outdated licences will be introduced.

• The option was not implemented due to LOM/LOM-Import issues.

To change the behavior, this option should be discussed again in the Jour Fixe.
