1 Initial Problem

With the rise of open educational resources Creative Commons support becomes more and more important in ILIAS. But the current support of CC licences in ILIAS still has some shortcomings:

• There is no warning when an author of a content object that is already tagged with a specific licence is changing the assigned copyright. Changing the licence for an already distributed content could result in legal problems if the different licences are contradicting. This should be mentioned on the confirmation screen.

2 Conceptual Summary

The problem described above should be solved as follows:

• Changing the licence assignment in the Metadata tab of an object triggers a confirmation screen that warns users about effects of this modification: "You are going to change the licence assigned to this content. Please take care that the new licence is not more restrictive than the one used before."

3.2 User Interface Details

• A confirmation modal should be presented when saving the Quick Edit form and the selected licence has been changed.
• An Interruptive modal should be used because changing an already assigned licence is considered as a critical situation.
• Suggested text for the modal is: "You are going to change the licence assigned to this content. This should only be done in accordance with the copyright owner. Please continue only if the new licence is not more restrictive than the one used before."
