5 Discussion
Use the following discussion section to express your objections against this request or your consent to get rid of this feature.
Gerl , Stefanie [stefanie.gerl], 12 JUN 2018: At our university, the horizontal ordering question is often used in examinations. We therefore do not support the proposal to remove this question type in whole. I can't quite understand why the question type is such a threat to data integrity. What kind of modifications would have to be made to improve the question type?
Berggold, Christine [berggold], 13 JUN 2018: We also often use this question type in our online examinations to ask for steps in special processes, operational steps, chronological sequences etc. We would like to keep this question type.
Lauener, Hansjörg [lauener], 14. Juni 2018. I am not sure if this question-type is widely-used at our university.
But the important question in this discussion is not if we would like to keep this question type. The question we all should think about is:
- Is this a mandatory question for "our" institution? If Yes, then a) one of these institutions should announce interests in funding and b) should ask Björn for an offer for a revision of this question.
- If there is no financial committment, then we should really abandon this question. A corrupt test is not funny for a responsible person of an exam.
Neumann, Fred [fneumann], 14 JUN 2018: First of all we have to know what exactly the danger of this question type is. What are the related mantis bugs? I know some problems related to the use of delimiters in the question definition in special cases, but once a questions is defined and successfully previewed (which is a prerequisite), we haven't got any problems related to its use in exams so far (ILIAS 5.1). Currently we have 12.605 questions of this type in our platform.
Rabah, Rachid [rabah], 16 JUN 2018:We use the horizontal ordering question quit often in our exams. We therefore, defintly do not support the proposal to remove this question type. Please explain in detail, why this question type poses a threat to data integrity.
Strassner, Denis [dstrassner], 18.06.2018: I agree with Steffi, Fred and Rachid, that we need more informations about the threat to data integrity. We use this question type sometimes, but not quite as often as FAU.
Glaubitz, Marko [mglaubitz], 27. JUN 2018: This wquestion type is used by many of our lecturers both in 'ordinary' and the continuing education sector. The Universität Freiburg strongly opposes abandoning this feature. We have no reports of problems with this questions type.
@Alexandra and Björn: Please specify the issues and the magnitude of possibly necessary repairs.
Loewe, Anja [aloewe]: 2018-06-27: We agree with Steffi, Fred, Rachid und Marko. If this question type needs revisioning, please specify the details and costs.
Strassner, Denis [dstrassner]: 2022-02-10: We talked about this Feature Request and see no problems with the question type in terms of data integrity. Accordingly, we set it to outdated.
6 Implementation
{The maintainer has to give a description of the final implementation and possible consequences for existing installations.}
