Tutorial Support for Groups

1 Initial Problem

Group has a Member Gallery which lists all group administrators and group members.  But in the group member gallery it is not possible to distinguish group members from group administrators.

Courses have the new tutorial support highlight (Tutorial Support for Courses). Group Member Gallery should get the same functionality.

2 Conceptual Summary

Groups get a "Tutorial Support" checkbox like in courses. This tutorial support (german: "Gruppenbetreuung") indicates users, which are responsible for the group.

In the member gallery these users are

  • at the beginning of the user list,
  • are highlighted with a colored line and
  • get a "Responsibility" indicator in their card.

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

  • Group > Members > Edit Participants
  • Group > Members > Group Members Gallery
  • Group > Info

3.2 User Interface Details

  • New Column "Tutorial Support" with checkboxes

  • Add "Highlight" to Tutorial Support Group Participants, means:
    • List first in member gallery,
    • add line below the profile picture and
    • add "Responsibility" label.
  • See also implementation of Tutorial Support for Courses.

3.3 New User Interface Concepts

No new user interface components.

7 Discussion

Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler], 05th december 2017: I think, it's necessary to raise group administrators (or users who are responsible for the group) in the group member gallery. But I do not know if "Tutorial Support" is the best thing to do that?!

If we reuse the "Tutorial Support" functionalities from courses, also info page of the group will be adjusted. Do we need that for groups? Or do we need a new "Responsibility" label, f.e. group administrator (f.e. with another colored line)?

Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler], 13. Aug 2018: Comment on posting of December 5, 2017: I think it makes the most sense to have a uniform system that users can get to know. I therefore welcome the fact that implementation in groups should work in the same way as in courses. The remark above can therefore be regarded as "solved".

Meyer, Stefan [smeyer] 13. Aug 2018, I support this request in general. But I would like to suggest the following changes when editing participants in the member screen:

  • Change the role selection from "Multi-Select" to Checkboxes for each local role of the course/group
  • Disable "Tutorial Support", "Notification" if only member roles are chosen
  • Disable "Blocked (access refused)" if only admin/tutor roles are chosen.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 13 AUG 2018 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule it for 5.4. We also accept Stefan's suggestion for "role-dependant" checkboxes, as described above. Checkboxes should be hidden instead of being deactivated. Please use the same ordering of columns for member view and table of selected users (esp. position of role column).

8 Implementation

{The maintainer has to give a description of the final implementation and add screenshots if possible.}
