Hide Title, Icons and Top Actions
Page Overview
[Hide]- Top Actions Guideline
- [[[Project] MOOC-like Look]]
1 Initial Problem
In ILIAS 5.3 you can already hide title and icon of the root node of the repository.
That root node of the repository has no Top Actions.
This makes it possible to have top node offering focus instead of distraction.
2 Conceptual Summary
- Category
- Course
- Group
- Folder
Show Title and Icon | ☑ | (default on) | |
Show Top Actions | ☑ | (default on) |
The setting should be proagated to all immediate container children objects.
Edit 16 Oct 2018, Killing, Alexander [alex]: Just to make clear what propagation means. When a container is created manually in the repository, it will check these settings from the parent container and adopt them. We will not override these settings for existing children containers (this would be chaos).

7 Discussion
- Use "Show Icon and Title" and "Show Top Action" with a default of "on" to make positive statements in settings (See accepted guideline in KS-Entry: Form Settings).
- Do not put that in "Additional Features". To me it seems a long stretch to sell icon and title or even the Top Action as feature and there is a much better place: COURSE PRESENTATION (or whetever container is to be configured).
Killing, Alexander [alex], 2 Oct 2017: I support the idea. Stefan needs to confirm this, too.
I have only one concern: In my experience there is sometimes a difference between "inner-actions" and "outer-actions". With "inner-actions" I refer to the actions-menu in the title. With "outer-actions" I refer to the actions-menu in the repository listings. I always felt like it's wrong to present different actions there. Now, if the action menu is hidden, some "inside-only" actions may be burried. I feel this is a bit problematic given the non-obvious distinction between inside/outside-actions.
Example for a course (https://ilias.de/test53/goto.php?target=crs_45343&client_id=test53)

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], October 09, 2017: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule it for 5.4. Please place the new setting within the sub-section 'Course Presentation' and not as an additional feature.
