Data Table Guideline

1 Description

All tables should be migrated to the new ilTable2GUI class.

Data tables are those tables that have column headlines.

Guideline as decided on JF 22 Feb 2010:

1. All buttons that appear on the bottom of a data table should appear on top, too.
2. Buttons that add/import entries to/into the table should be displayed in a toolbar on top of the table before the table.

• All data tables feature headlines. Exceptions are screens, where the screen title already gives a proper name for the table content and it is not possible to use a more specific non-redundant table title. (E.g. user accounts screen, bookmarks screen)

4 Discussion

Alex 4 Nov 2009: I suggest to collect some screenshots of current tables under "Additional Information".

JF 16 Nov 2009: We suggest to first try to have all buttons on top and at the bottom, controlled by the central table class. We would like to activate this behaviour at the beginning of the 4.1 development and further investigate whether this is a solution everybody agrees on.

Alex 13 Feb 2010: I have activated the buttons on top as default. I highly suggest to put the add/import buttons in a toolbar before the table. I have the feeling this is the best solution.

JF 22 Feb 2010: We go with the guideline, "put import/add buttons on top and repeat other buttons on the top and on the bottom of the table".

JF 22 Mar 2010: We first need to identify tables that still use the old table class. In the second step, add/import buttons must always be put on top. The issue has top priority (usability/consistency).

JF 15 Oct 2012: We would like to support headlines for all tables with ILIAS 4.4. The list of pages where tables have to be changed has to be completed at the wiki page Data Table Guideline
