Output Formats of Submissions

1 Initial Problem

Currently output formats of submissions prepared and stored in exercises are very difficult to handle:

  • Portfolios and Blogs stored output is very difficult to acces them unless you are very savvy.
  • Tutors have no choice about the output preparation.
  • The output formats are varied accross types of assignments.

2 Conceptual Summary

In the tab 'Submission and Grade' the assignment types Blog, Portfolio and Team-Wiki offer a new action once the assignment was submitted: Print/PDF.
The print dialog is presented and a print can be triggered or a PDF generated using the print dialoge.

The assignment settingscreen is amended to include a setting determining the output to be prepared and stored. The following formats should be availabe for Blog, Portfolio and Team-Wiki assignment type.

  • PDF - Export
  • HTML - Export
Default Setting: both options are checked.

For other submission types this feature is not considered to be reasonable.

Please note that the PDF functionality was removed from the release in the following feature requests:

9 Discussion

Killing, Alexander [alex], 11 Aug 2020: I am not a big fan of PDF exports (error prone, do not include audio/video, ...). I understand that the HTML zip handling is not user friendly, we have already these requests https://docu.ilias.de/goto_docu_wiki_wpage_5562_1357.html, https://docu.ilias.de/goto_docu_wiki_wpage_5572_1357.html for ILIAS 7 and
https://docu.ilias.de/goto_docu_wiki_wpage_5571_1357.html in ILIAS 6. Would this fit your needs?

Open Submisson helps a lot! But for the cases when submissions are to be exported and send per Email to the tutors for evaluation, we need more flexible option. And PDF ist the digital format most people are familiar with.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 17 AUG 2020 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule it for ILIAS 7.

Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler], 19 APR 2021:
In the mockup I noticed that both output options are checkboxes, i.e. theoretically a user could deselect both. In this case, would he only have the "Open Submission" option for the portfolio and no download option for the team wiki and blog?

As an alternative, I could imagine that (1) all three variants would have "Open Submission" (if not already available), (2) the HTML export would be displayed in every case (as before) and (3) an option for an additional PDF export would be available for each assignment task (whether it can be selected by the user or is even available by default, because I assume that hardly any user will deactivate the PDF export if it is offered.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 19 APR 2021: We highly appreciate this suggestion and accept the feature for ILIAS 8. We would like to have "HTML Export" activated by default and "PDF Export" as additional option that can be activated, too. The byline for PDF Export should mention that this export format might not include all content elements of the portfolio, esp. videos and other media objects.

Please note that the PDF functionality was removed from the release in the following feature requests:
