Media Pools: Multiple Media File Import

1 Initial Problem

Media objects must be created one-by-one in the media pool.

2 Conceptual Summary

It should be possible to upload multiple files in one step, similar to the file upload in the ILIAS repository. During theworkflow it should be possible to optionally specify the titles of the objects. Additionally, an option should be offered that replaces existingobject files, if they have the same name as uploaded files. An error will be prompted, if multiple objects share the same filename.

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

  • Media Pool > Folders

3.2 User Interface Details

Media Pool > Folders

  • New Button "Bulk Upload": Clicking the button will open a form for uploading multiple files.
  • Clicking "Upload files" will upload all files and create a media object for each single file.
  • If "Replace existing with same filename" is checked, media files in existing media objects will be replaced, if they share the same filename. An error message will be presented, if this is the case for multiple media objects.

7 Discussion

Killing, Alexander [alex], 30 Mar 2017: I fully support this request.

Schmid, Fabian [fschmid] 31.03.2017: @Alex we will refactor the D&D-Fileupload for 5.3 and bring the dropzones to the UI-Service. I think it would be good that we have a lokk at it together that you simply can reuse this features.

Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler], 03 April 2017: I like this feature request from a user-centric view too. At the moment it's very hard work if you work with huge amount of videos or images which are linked f.e. in learning modules. If you like to replace images to a new version, at the moment you have to upload them one per one. +1 for this feature wiki request.

Killing, Alexander [alex], 3 Apr 2017: @Fabian, great, I would also prefer using a refactored version of the d&d/multi-upload. I do not have funding settled for this yet, so I won't start with an implementation soon.

Amstutz, Timon [amstutz], 7. Dezember 2017: Good news, the new Dropzone is here. Please change the screenshot accordingly and linke the the corresponding KS-Entry, to make clear that you will use the Standard File Dropzone. Please also consider using the Wrapper Dropzone in the overview table, which would offer a nice shorthand to upload media items directly into the table.

Killing, Alexander [alex], 3 Jan 2018: I still support the idea for ILIAS 5.4.

Tödt, Alexandra [atoedt] 2017-01-04 @Timon: What table?

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], 10 JAN 2018 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule it for 5.4.
