Configurable Connection of Schedule and Sorting in Courses with Learning Plan

Overview: Enhancing Learning Plans

1 Initial Problem

By now (ILIAS 5.2.x), objects a course's learning plan view are automatically sorted according to the schedule, i.e.:

  • The schedule item with the earliest start date appears on top of the list,
  • Schedule items with later start date appear accordingly further down the list,
  • Objects without any schedule dates appear in the bottom of the list.
Thus, it is not possible to, e.g.:
  • To place objects according to the end date of their schedule (instead of their start).
  • To place objects without any schedule dates in an arbitrary position.

2 Conceptual Summary

To gain more flexibility, it is supposed to be configurable for the course administrator whether the sorting of objects in the learning plan view is automatically done according to the schedule or whether the sort order is adopted from the one in the course's "Content" view.
This should be a sub-option of the "Timings View" option.

Possible sub-containers of the course are supposed to:

  • Adopt the course's sorting in case they recur to a default sorting mode.
  • Keep their own sorting in case they are featuring a sorting mode of their own.

7 Discussion

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], July 03, 2017: We would like to remove the behaviour that the learning plan view is always overwritting sorting settings and presents the course content according to timings. If a course author wants to have a different sorting, this should be possible. Nevertheless, when the presentation view "Timings View" has been chosen and settings are saved, the sorting type is set to "By activation" automatically. But this setting can be changed afterwards. Scheduled for 5.3.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], July 17, 2017: Due to missing time and manpower, this feature can't make it into 5.3 and is now scheduled for release 5.4.
