Internal Link to User Profile

1 Initial Problem

At the time being I can only link to a user's profile by using an external link and the perma link address of this user. Getting this address needs several clicks: new tab/window » Search » User Search » click on user name in search results » Profile. And this is only possible if the user search has been activated in Administration.

2 Conceptual Summary

This feature request suggests to extend the internal link targets by a new link type 'User'. If chosen, ILIAS presents a user search and a clickable list of search results to define the target.

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

  • Page editor » iln » Link

3.2 User Interface Details

The modal for selecting the target of an internal link needs to be extended by the link type 'User'.

See suggestions by Yvonne Seiler below.

3.3 New User Interface Concepts

No new UI concepts.

4 Technical Information

7 Discussion

March 23, 2017, Seiler, Yvonne [yvseiler]: Made some suggestions on how design could be. It depends on KS-Round Trip Modal and its definitions.

Step 1: Search for a user
Step 2: Choose a user (table view).
Step 2 (Alternative): Choose a user (member gallery view).
Optional: Revision of Explorer/Tree View with a hint

Killing, Alexander [alex], 31 Mar 2017: I support the idea in general. What page editor contexts should support this?

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], April 04, 2017: Product manager supports request. I would suggest to support all contexts.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], April 10, 2017: We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule it for 5.3. The new 'link to user profile' should be implemented in all contextes of the IPE except for SCORM editor (due to the SCORM regulations). We prefer to use the deck of cards (Alternative 2) to present the search result for users. The modal might be even broader (at least four in a row or even six to save space). We don't implement embedded scrolable areas within the modal. We keep the already existing button to add a user in the wiki - as users are already get used to it.

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], August 24, 2017: We need to clarify which users are offered when inserting a user link. At the time being, only users which are in Contacts are offered - because this is the current behaviour coming from the mail system. Should we extend the list to all users with public profiles?

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], August 28, 2017: All users are presented and could be linked to that have a public profile enabled. This is the similar behaviour like in the user search.
