Tagging in Categories

1 Initial Problem

Retrieving information in a category in which a huge amount of object was dumped. 

This feature request is a part of the Concept for Learning Communities specifically it is a sub-project to implement Teams. 

2 Conceptual Summary

A tag cloud offering an attractive, topical overview to the content of the category. Clicking on a tag will present all objects tagged with this tag.

• The tag cloud will be a separate feature that is activated, similar to the existing feature for groups and courses.
• Major difference will be: Only tags of direct children will be collected (not complete substructures, due to number of tags and performance issues.

3.2 User Interface Details

3.2.1 Settings-tab of Category

The section Additional Features gets a new Checkbox Tag Cloud: Similar checkbox to the existing one in courses/groups.

3.2.2 Content-tab of Category 

If the Tag Cloud feature is activated in the settings a tag block will be displayed (same as in courses/groups, e.g. tags of other users will be displayed).
The behaviour is similar to courses/groups, but only direct children will be searched.

3.3 New User Interface Concepts

Used estabilished UI-Components which are however not part of the kitchensink, yet.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], Nov 07, 2016: We highly appreciate this request and schedule it for 5.3. We see that some users might wonder why the tag cloud in categories does not collect tags from sub-objects of embedded groups or lists. But we accept this for the first implementation and wait for feedback from users to discuss this issue for later versions.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 24 SEP 2018 : We highly appreciate this FR and schedule it for 5.4 with the reason from the last scheduling. Please use the new UI Input Tag for this implementation.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 20 MAY 2019: We highly appreciate this suggestion and re-schedule the feature for 6.0. In case filter and tag cloud are available, the content presented in the category is filtered by the selected filter values AND the used tag(s) (in case at least one is selected). For the future, we have to find a clear view on how filter and tags are working together and if tags might be integrated into filters one day.
