Improved assignment of materials

1 Initial Problem

If you use a group or course with several sessions and a lot of content (material), the process to assign a course or group content to a specific session is painful. Reason for this is, that the list 'Assignment of Materials' is just a long list of all objects within the course or group - no matter in which folder the objects. You can sort them alphabetically - but that's it.

2 Conceptual Summary

Having a filter for the list 'Assignments of Materials' would help tutors to find the requested object quickly and to assign it. The filter should support the title / name of the content, the type of object and if material is already assigned or not.

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

The existing tab 'Assignment of Materials' should be extended by an added filter.

3.2 User Interface Details

• Added default filter element with known behaviour, placed above list
• Filter :
  • "Title" with text input form
  • "Object type" as dropdown (should list only object types that exist in course / group - if possible)"
  • "Assigned" as dropdown with values 'Not assigned | Assigned | Both'

3.3 New User Interface Concepts

No new UI elements will be introduced.

Please discuss:

• This is a really important filter. Do we want to have it open when users are the first time in this tab? (similar to course-membertab). I would vote for this.
• There are a lot of information (see picture below). Do all admins really need the "Path"-information?
  • We should have an additional column "Path" (similar to "My workspace" => "My repository objects")
  • And "Path" could be default Off.
  • And a "Columns"-dropdown field with "Path" could make the path-information configurable for each user

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], September 25, 2017: We highly appreciate this request and schedule it for 5.4. We want to get rid of the inline editing and use a default table with multi-action (Assign | Remove) - as known from other components in ILIAS (e.g. LP settings). The filter should be opened by default.
