Welcome-Mail for New Members in Groups

1 Initial Problem

When the administrator of a group adds a member to the group, then the member gets a notification mail.
This mail contains just a text like: "You have been added to the group as a member", which cannot be edited.

If the member has a mail forwarding, he might not know, what the sense of this mail is - he even does not know, that it is an automaticly generated mail. Within our institution, there have been irritations, when professors get mails from assistants without salutation.

2 Conceptual Summary

Like already known from courses, groups should have an option in the group settings whether a notification shall be sent to a member after he/she was added or not.

7 Discussion

Kunkel, Matthias [mkunkel], June 15, 2015: I strongly recommend to streamline course and group and to implement the "Welcome-Mail for New Members" in groups, too - see screenshot below. Another candidate on the same screen is Optional show members.

Weber, Frank [franklin66], February 16th 2016: We just upgraded to ILIAS 5.1.2, but this feature is still missing. And it truly does lead to irritations e.g. when a lecturer prepares his course before the semester  - while the course is still offline - and adds students to groups.

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], Feb 29, 2016: We agree with Matthias' suggestion to streamline course and group and schedule this request for 5.2.

Weber, Frank [franklin66], 17 Sep 2018: I see that funding for this feature is still missing - how much would it cost to implement this feature?

JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], 04 FEB 2019 : We highly appreciate this suggestion and schedule the feature for 6.0.
