Criteria Catalogues are Avaiblabe to Tutors as Feedback Channel

1 Initial Problem

The criteria catalogues which we can create for peer feedback scenarios are ver helpful already. Often, however, we would like to use such catalogues for tranparent grading by tutors as well. Additionally, we would like to enable students to see how we fill out such criteria lists compared to their peers.

2 Conceptual Summary

1. The criteria catalogues should be available in the submissions and grades view.
2. Since we often have different criteria for different tasks, the catalogues should be assigned to individual assignments rather than "complete" exercises
3. Students should be able to view their feedback online, just as they do with peer feedback

3 User Interface Modifications

3.1 List of Affected Views

  • Settings for exercise
  • Settings for assignment
  • Grades and Submissions View
  • Students' view

3.2 User Interface Details

{For each of these views please list all user interface elements that should be modified, added or removed. Please provide the textual appearance of the UI elements and their interactive behaviour.}

Creators of exercises can choose to activate criteria catalogues for tutor feedback in the central exercise settings. Tutors will not choose the criteria catalogue here because the usage of a catalogue depends on each individual task and should thus be determined in each individual assignment.

In each assignment, tutors can choose from a list of criteria catalogues which one they would like to use for one specific task. This option will not e available if criteria catalogues are deactivated in the central exercise settings and thus we do not need the option "no catalogue".

Next to the already available options tutors will have the option to choose to fill in a criteria catalogue. If criteria catalogues are deactivated in the central exercise settings, this option won't be visible in this view.

Tutors will give feedback with criteria catalogues the same way as they do when giving text feeback in the submissions and grades view. When clicking on "Rückmeldung per Kriterienkatalog", users will see a new box in front of a darkened background.

The received tutor feedback will be shown just as the received peer feedback: A new window will open and students can navigate between the feedback view and the overview of the exercisse.

3.3 New User Interface Concepts

All user interfaces are based on the existing framework

11 Discussion

Graf, David [dagraf], November 24, 2016: We (the University of Berne) are also interested in this feature (lecturers did ask exactly for this feature). We would be interested in funding, too.

Glaubitz, Marko [mglaubitz], 12.11.2024: We would be interestered in realizing this. We have two primary scenarios in mind:

  1. Lecturers want to use this to structure their own feedback for students to provide a fairer and more transparent feedback and evaluation
  2. In lectures with many subgroups (each organized by a tutor), the critiria catalogue is supposed to level the kind and quality of the feedback that the tutors provide for the group members.
