Restrict Tagging to certain objects or use permissions

1 Requirements

In vocational education there are very focused courses along with more open ones. Our goal is to offer tagging in just one course and all tags are created only by tutors.

We would love to use tags but only in certain places and / or set by certain roles.

  • It would be great if we could switch on tagging only for specific courses. We do not need the tag cloud on the personal desktop, we only need it in specific courses that contain enormous amounts of files. In those courses there should be the tags block to supplement local navigation. Other courses should not be tainted by tagging only those few, selected ones. This would require the tagging to be a service as competence that can be activated generally in the administration and locally in an object.
  • In a perfect world we would love to restrict tagging to a tutor / teacher role and not allow it to normal users. We understand that this might be a bigger endeavor.
