enable wildcards in user search
1 Requirements
In user search fields there are no wildcards like * or ? allowed.
The search would be much more flexible and misstype-tolerant if the author/administrator can user wildcards in search fields.
for example:
* = any character, any type
# = any character, numerical type
? or _ = one character, any type

sesterhenn, Aug 14 2015: I would suggest this enhancement for the whole search engine, not only user search. That way it would be possible to search for "Test*" and only get results that start with "Test". Right now, searching for "Test" gives search results like "Test" and / or "Abschlusstest", but that is not the same as a wildcard search.
JourFixe, ILIAS [jourfixe], Jan 04, 2016: We highly appreciate a general wildcard handling in ILIAS and schedule it for 5.2. This requires an extension of the query parser to support the different types of databases and types of search engines (e.g. Lucene). Like today, the mail system should not support wildcard search for privacy reasons.
Zenzen, Enrico [ezenzen], 05 AUG 2022: This request no longer fulfills the requirements of the Feature Wiki. In consultation with the maintainer I change the status of the feature request to "Redundant / outdated". If the request is still relevant, please update template and mockups.
