Search Field in Forums

1 Requirements

Inside the topic overview of forum-objects in the ILIAS magazine a block "search in forum" will be integrated in the right marginal column which contains a searchbox. This searchbox will appear in the same manner as the searchbox in ILIAS wiki objects. The searchbox will not appear on the level of topics and postings.

Given the ILIAS news service is activated, the searchbox appears above the newsblock in the forum. The search is restricted on the context of the actual forum, the user is shown and includes the searching of topics as well as their contents e.g. postings via lucene search. The search results will be shown analogue to the wiki in a tabular overview (see screenshot below). The search results can only show the details of the search results for forums in the global ILIAS search. This also concerns the highlighting of strings. Search results e.g. the connected titles of topics will be linked and lead when clicked to the respective topic view in the forum. The global search in the header range of ILIAS (magnifier in the upper right corner, see screenshot) stays untouched.

3 Discussion

MJ 09 Apr 2015: As the responsible code maintainer I support this requests.

JF 13 Apr 2015: We appreciate the feature in general and schedule it for 5.1. We think that the redundance in the user interface is ok, since usability is greatly improved. The search in the forum should re-use the general search mode currently activated (especially lucene should be used if activated). The presentation of search results should be implemented by the search component and be similar to the standard results screen. Sub elements (here topics) should be listed on the top level in this case, each entry should get a relevance bar (if lucene activated). The result screen should be presented in the "UI context" of the forum. The local search in the wiki should be modified accordingly, see Improved Wiki Search Results.
