Remove Local Administration

1 Requirements

The local administration has become a redundant concept with organisational units and should be removed to focus on one concept.
 
Manual migration is possible
* Export all users (including field 'Owner (time limit)')
* Extract assignment of users to categories
* Create XML-File with user assignment to ORG-Units (corresponding to the old categories)
* Import XML
 
This feature should at least be officially deprecated to give organizations some time for the migration process - or even removed with the next major release.

3 Discussion

Marko Glaubitz, 02.03.2015: We dearly need the local user administration. At the moment, I do not see any chance of achieving the same thing with org units without  tinkering around with additional plugins. Before this basic feature is removed, please provide alternative concepts that show how non-admin users can adminstrate a local branch (users, local roles for a category, ...) using NOTHING but the built in org units functionality!

I also like this feature. Why remove it? Does it bother somebody in any way?

I agree with the objections made above. By now, you cannot access the org units feature without having access to the administration.
And plug-ins are plug-ins, i.e., the software functionality must stay usable also without them.
Apart from that, if this feature should really be abandoned, I'd like to ask at least for a more comfortable migration option than what is described above: This way, you would have to map the old TimeLimitOwner data to the IDs of the new org units.

Studer, Martin [mstuder] I think it's not a redundant concept. There are Institutions which use the ILIAS category to separate the local user administration and others use the organisational units. It depends on the structuring of ILIAS.

Jackisch, Ingo [jackisch] Eventhoug I use Orgunits for some purposes I agree to Mirtin and don't  think the concepts are redundant.
