Second deadline for late submissions

1 Requirements

There are often students who do not manage handing in their files in time. For those cases it should be possible to add a second deadline so that those users can hand in their solution late. They should see that they are not in time any more as well as the course admin should see this.

 
1. There should be a second deadline, like this (if the checkbox is activated: entry of the date)

2. In the submissions tab, late submissions should be highlighted.

3. Users should see that they are too late (Button: hand in late)

3 Discussion

JL 05 Mar 2015: There is another feature wiki entry Individual Deadlines for different users.

JF 30 Mar 2015: We appreciate this feature and schedule it for 5.1.

JL 27 Apr 2015: It still might need to be discussed how the extended deadline is presented in the GUI. Only after the 1st deadline or at once and how are the both deadlines discerned?

JL 07 May 2015: Currently the 2nd deadline is never presented in the GUI. The information about the deadline and remaining working time remains unchanged and only a grace period info is displayed after the deadline has passed. This is done to pressure a participant who has not submitted yet to submit ASAP because he/she does not know when the grace period ends. (see screenshot below)

A different problem is change management: if and when can deadline(s) be changed?  If the grace period is changed what happens to submissions which are marked as late. If the grace period is deactivated are late submissions to be deleted?
The same applies to the peer review deadline: should it be editable if it is still in the future, can it be set to a value in the past?

• If peer reviews are handed in no submission deadlines can be edited anymore.
• The peer review deadline can always be changed.
• If the "late submission" deadline is changed, the "late" flag of already handed in submissions should be updated accordingly.

4 Implementation
