Poll as Page Editor Element

1 Initial Problem

The Poll in ILIAS is a great didactic tool. However, the fact that it is fixed or rather nailed to sidebar, possibly beneath the news block and the calendar limits its potential. Polls can easily be overlooked and many course admins would like to have the chance to place the poll at a prominent place with their course page design. However, this is not possible.

2 Conceptual Summary

A new Page Editor item called "Insert Poll" will be added On Category / Course / Group and Folder pages behind the (+) button. User can than select a poll from a list of all polls in this context to be placed on the page.

If users have the permission to create polls in this container, uses will additionally have the opportunity to create a new poll right on the spot.  This will reduce the risk of creating a usability risk comparably to the handling of item groups in order to place other objects on an editor page.

The decision, whether a poll will be shown in the sidebar or on the page, will follow the same pattern as objects which have been added to an item list. If a poll is not placed (has not been added to the page), it will be shown in the sidebar. If it has been added, it will be shown in all places where it has been inserted (multiple times possible), but NOT in the sidebar.

The poll will use the full width of the container it has been placed in.

3.2 User Interface Details

The page editor should receive a new page editor element called "Insert Poll".

Case 1: user has the permission to create polls in this context

• it provides the opportunity to either select an existing poll oder to create a new poll and place at its desgnated spot.

Case 2: user does not have the permission to create polls in this context

• only using an exitsing poll from this context is shown as an option
