MS SQL Support

1 Requirements

For various reasons ILIAS should support MS SQL Databases, too.
 
The support of MS SQL would kill multiple birds with one stone:

• higher flexibility for new and existing environments in big environments
• ILIAS gets more interesting to companies, schools and institutions with a settled database infrastructure of microsoft
• the interchange with other services of Microsoft (Reporting Services, SharePoint) - would be/get easier/possible.

3 Discussion

JF 5 Jan 2015: We do not reject to support MSSQL, but we would like to first move away from our current "abstraction" lib MDB2 (see Replace ilDB/MDB2 with PDO).

Schmid, Fabian [fschmid] We are currently pursuing the strategy of not supporting any more database systems. Since ILIAS 8 only MySQL/MariaDB is supported, no new systems should be added, so that the functionality of MySQL/MariaDB can be used better in the future.
