Automatically Assign Skin by User Data

1 Requirements

By now, the skin can either be configured globally or be made subject to users' individual choice.
However, it is not possible to automatically assign it according to specific user data like:

• Institution / Department
• Country (preferably the select version)
• User-defined fields (preferably select fields)
• Language

A feature like that would be very helpful in order to reliably make the system look like the corporate design of the user's department or country (or similar). By now this is not possible in any automated or bulk processing approach of user account creation:

• When users register themselves, they can either choose arbitrarily among available skins or be automatically assigned to one default skin.
• When users are created by XML import or external synchronization, the skin cannot be assigned at all.

It would be necessary to make sure that the function:

• Is elapsed if the respective user data field is empty for a specific user.
• Reacts to subsequent changes of the respective user data field (at least after the next login of the user).

The feature could be placed as an additonal option of the setting "Administration > User Management > Standard Fields > Default Skin / Style > (Default column)":

• Checkbox "Automatically Assign by User Data".
• If the checkbox is activated, a drop-down appears offering all default or custom user data field (maybe only those of the select type).

Wischniak, Stanislav [wischniak], 11.10.2016: At least an import of the skin via XML is now possible (since 2.6.2). See forum discussion (ger.) or description in the comments of the User Import Script (en.).

Zenzen, Enrico [ezenzen], 18 AUG 2022: This request no longer fulfills the requirements of the Feature Wiki. In consultation with the maintainer I change the status of the feature request to "Redundant / outdated". If the request is still relevant, please update template and mockups.
