Reply to Mailing List

1 Requirements

By now, when an ILIAS asks a question to a trainer and/or administrator via e-mail, it is not guaranteed that the addressee can identify the "context" to which the e-mail refers, i.e., a certain course or group.
Thus, the trainer/administrator has no clue to whom his/her answer could also be interesting and to take them into CC.

A system administrator (or someone with similar permissions) could at least took a look in the user account and see what courses and groups the writer is a member of. However, if the user is a member of several courses/groups, even this way he/she can only guess. And trainers do not even have this opportunity.

Of course, when you write the e-mail directly from the course, there is a footer with a link to the course automatically inserted, so the context can be identified. However, this approach has several weaknesses:

  • The footer can be removed by the writer.
  • The footer is not inserted when you write to the course/group mailing list via "Personal Desktop > Mail".
  • When you trace back the context by the link in the footer and select some of the course members as addressees of your reply, the original subject, message and sender of the e-mail get lost.

So, it wouold be very helpful to have a function that allows to easily take some or all co-members of the affected course/group into CC when you receive an e-mail (provided that it comes via a mailinglist).

This function could look like this:
  • When you open an e-mail you received, there is not only a "Reply" button but also one called "Reply to Mailing List".
  • Then the same view opens as you get when calling "Personal Desktop > Mail > Compose  > My Courses > Actions: List Members".
