Concept for Learning Communities

1 Introduction

"Learning Communities"  is a term for a template for a cohort-based, interdisciplinary approach to higher education. A learning community is a group of people

  • connected by a sense of membership,
  • who are actively engaged in learning together from each other,
  • their individual needs are met and
  • they have some influence on their joint way of collaboration.
In oder to support this approach we have devised a set of goals and requirements to meet those goals.

Examples of Usage Learning Communities in U.S. Colleges

We gathered requirements for implementing  the concept of „Learning Communities“ for ILIAS 4.6. Two workshops were held in January / February 2014 on behalf of the University of the Federal Armed Forces of Germany at Hamburg. The workshop was run by Alexandra Tödt (leifos, toedt@leifos.com)

Participants were delegates from:

  • University of the Federal Armed Forces of Germany at Hamburg
  • University of Applied Sciences of Ostwestfalen-Lippe
  • University of Applied Sciences of Dortmund
  • ILIAS open source e-learning society
  • leifos GmbH
  • Databay AG.
