Content Item Sorting by Creation Date

1 Requirements

A new option "Sort by Creation Date" for sorting of items within container item lists should be implemented (ascending and descending order). Additionally a new option for the manual sorting mode should determine whether newly created items should be put at the end or on top of the list.

SM, 14.10.2014: Diese Einstellungen sind wichtig, wenn man eine manuelle Sortierung in einem Container vorgenommen hat. Neue, nach der Sortierung hinzugefügte Objekte, werden dann entsprechend dieser Einstellungen sortiert.
MK., 14.10.2014: Hallo Stefan, vielen Dank für die Erläuterung. Ich frage mich aber gerade, warum es zum einen eine Einstellung für die Position neuer Objekte gibt und zum anderen eine für die Sortierungsrichtung. Folgt nicht das eine aus dem anderen? Wenn ich neue Objekte oben platziere, ist die Sortierungsrichtung doch automatisch absteigend. Denn ältere Objekte werden anschließend präsentiert. Oder möchte jemand erst das neueste Objekt, gefolgt vom ältesten und zweitältesten und drittältesten? Oder habe ich etwas falsch verstanden?
HJL, Ich verstehe es so:
Option 1: "Position for New Objects": Entscheidet, ob neue Objekte zuoberst oder zuunterst hinzugefügt werden."
Option 2: "Order for New Objects": Ist obsolet, wird nicht gebraucht, denn wenn ich z.B. drei Objekte gleichzeitig hochlade (Multiple File Upload), dann haben die das gleiche Creation date (ausser ev. bei grossen Dateien), bzw. die Zeitvorgaben werden nicht schon beim Upload festgelegt.
Option 3: Ist sinnvoll, denn Objekte werden dann entweder zuoberst oder zuunterst (je nach Option 1) eingefügt, wenn man mehrere Objekte hinzufügt (Multiple File Upload), dann wird innerhalb dieser Optionen entschieden, ob Alphabetisches Ascending oder Alphabetisches Descending. Ein Hinweistext wäre sinnvoll: Die Sortierungsrichtung ist wesentlich, wenn mehrere Objekte gleichzeitig hinzugefügt werden.

JF 8 Dec 2014: We need all three options. We will improve this part of the form by adding a subheader, a non-editable text field or by extending the info text of the "manual" option. It should be clear that all three suboptions affect new objects.

Now we are using ILIAS 5.0 since some weeks. I had some teachers asking about this functionality "Content item sorting: Manually"

It still do not think that this is a good idea to mix Positions for New Object, Order for New Objects and Sorting Direction.
Maybe the suggested improvement of JF could help. But this is not implemented yet.

What combination is necessary when we want to sort all items manually, and every new object (files or tools) should be on Top?
