Streamlining: Copy Forum

1 Requirements

The copy mode / procedure / behaviour differs among the variety of repository objects an schould be streamlined in general.
 
However, the current implementation of copying a forum works like that:
 
The forum is copied preserving
  • the forum title (good)
  • the forum moderators (not good)
  • the topics, including the topic authors (not good)
While there might be use cases (copy with the same course) in which this behaviour makes sense, in general tehre is no reason why user data from one course (name, topics, ...) should be available in a completely different course with completely different course members. The same argument holds fo the forum moderators.
 
In my opinion, the copy of a forum should be blank.

4 Discussion

MJ 14 May 2014: I support this feature. This should be discussed by the ILIAS Jour Fixe.

Marko Glaubitz, 04.06.2014: Have you already had time to talk about this in a JF meeting?

AT, 23.06.2014: What is the point of copying something empty? I want to carry my threads and posts with me, this is why I copy.
However I agree that the moderators should not be carried over, too.

JF 7 Jul 2014: We think that there are definitely scenarios where users want to copy the content (e.g. a course template containing a forum with an introduction posting). We would not like to simple change the current behaviour of ILIAS here. We would need a general concept how components can provide additional options during the copy process, so that users can control the copy behaviour.
 
However coping the moderators should be omitted, since this would be more consitent to the copy behaviour of other components (e.g. container do not copy assignments to local roles).

Marko Glaubitz, 07.07.2014: Ok, but I really don't see any consistency in copying the topics without the discussion posting / the entire threads. In my view, in order to behave consistently, either the entire content should be copied or simply an empty shell.
