Reference Test Environment

1 Requirements

Let's use a kind of small scale reference environment without external incluences with anonymised original university content and database to be able to test and compare.

Databay AG would donate 2 server-machines (i.e. for 1 Year) ~CPU E3-1230 V2 @ 3.30GHz, ~24GB RAM

  • 1 VM Loadbalancer NginX
  • 2 VM Web (Apache or FastCGI-only)
  • 1 VM MySQL/MariaDB, NFS
This would represent a mini-cluster scenario.
I also want to be able to test different system-configurations and also use them in parallel i.e.

Webserver/Reverse-Proxy:
1.1. NginX only Load-Balancing and SSL
1.2. NginX with caching of static contents
1.3. NginX direct deliver of static content from NFS only PHP via Apache
1.4. NginX only with PHP as FastCGI Deamon on 2 VM's
Above could be used in parallel by using different Port Addresses like 80,81,82 etc.

Optional:
1.5. NginX with ngx_pagespeed
1.6. Differen Reverse-Proxy/Loadbalancer i.E. Varnish

DB's:
2.1 MySQL 5.5 InnoDB
2.2 MySQL 5.6 InnoDB
2.3 MariaDB mit XtraDB = InnoDB und thread pooling
Could be used in parallel, but should be only one if performance test is scheduled.

2 Additional Information

  • Idea / concept: michael.hicke@ub.uni-tuebingen.de
  • Interest in funding:
