Advanced Search in Wiki

1 Description

An advanced search-form, or advanced-search possibilities would be helpful

  • OR and AND-operators, and exact term search. I suggest to overtake the Google operators:
    • Find wiki pages that have all these words (requirements guideline)
    • Find wiki pages that have one or more of these words (requirements OR guideline » this is the actual behavior of the search)
    • Find wiki pages with exact wording or phrase ("requirements guideline")
  • Members have an advanced search: "Show all wiki-pages" with rating: xyz-Rating > 3
  • Advanced search: "Show all wiki-pages" with the term xyz and with rating: overall-Rating is >= 4 stars
  • Advanced search with "and"-concatenation: eg. Show all wiki-pages with rating: xyz-rating >3 and zzz-rating > 3

4 Discussion

JF 7 Nov 2011: We only started the discussion on this topic. There are lots of things an dependencies to consider. We would like to make search within objects possible, see Context Sensitive Search, but we also want to centralize the implementation and streamline the presentation.

  • For AND/OR combinations we use the Lucene syntax, which is identical to Google in the case of "AND" and "OR".
  • The combination with the extended rating feature, will technically hardly be possible, since a general implementation must work for sets of objects as well. So we cannot include object-related properties.
  • The aggregated rating value could influence the search result (boost the relevance of the item) and we could show the aggregated value (stars) in the search results.
In general we need to continue and finish the Context Sensitive Search discussion, before we decide on these specialized features.

Zenzen, Enrico [ezenzen], 05 AUG 2022: This request no longer fulfills the requirements of the Feature Wiki. In consultation with the maintainer I change the status of the feature request to "Redundant / outdated". If the request is still relevant, please update template and mockups.
