Top Actions Guideline

1 Description

ILIAS 4.2 introduces a new navigation area on the top right on the level of the header title. This guideline determines which actions and elements should be presented on this level and which not.

Top Actions Area

The area should provide small, but powerful functionalities that are or should be available for more than one repository object and are or could be important for every day use of learners and tutors.

Examples:

  • Comments
  • Notes
  • Tagging
  • Notification
  • Add to Desktop
  • Open as Webfolder

Examples of what should not be presented here:
  • "Rename Wiki Page" (will only be available in Wikis)
  • Metadata (not important for every day use, too complex)

Comments, Notes, Tagging, Add/Remove from Desktop

These features should be provided as part of the actions menu for all repository objects. If comments, notes or tags are available for an object, this is presented by an icon in front of the actions drop down.

Notification

The (email) notification is currently available for

  • Forums
  • Wikis
  • Groups/Courses (ILIAS 4.2)

Unfortunately their presentations as available in 4.1 are hard to streamline. The top area should help to achieve this. The possible activation/deactivation actions should be presented in the actions drop down. Since it is important for the user to know whether the notification feature is available or not at all an icon (color or grayed-out) should represent the status and availability.

Rating

The rating feature is currently only available within Wikis. However we envisage this feature to be supported by other objects as well.
