Synonyms Support

We need some handling of synonyms in the glossaries. E.g. people enter "E-Mail"/"email" or real synonyms like "movie" and "film" should lead to the same glossary entry.

If one of these words is entered in the glossary search form, the other words will not be found.

3 Discussion

Alex, 20 Jan 2009: There are at least two alternatives:

• Using existing keywords as storage for synonyms (search needs to process keywords, too)
• Extending a glossary term definition with synonyms.

Little, 21.01.2009:

• The solution should be compatible with the reconstruction of the ILIAS-search (smeyer). As far as I know there are considerations of removing object-searches and at the end there would be only one search in ILIAS for everything.
• I'm not sure if I understand your first alternative (with the existing keywords)
• I thought about a text-field on the definition site. So there would be the definition and at the end "Keywords and Synonyms: ...." So the search results wouldn't be that incomprehensible like search results based on metadata. (like you threw in on the mantis-report)

• @Little: The first alternative should reflect your suggestion in the bug report.
• We discussed whether synonyms should be stored with a definition or with a term. Currently we prefer to assign it to the term. This is much easier in handling.
• We would also like to include the synonyms in the glossary list themselves (at their correct alphabetical place), e.g. with a link to the defining term.
