Dear Fred,

the ILIAS-Flash-Plugin currently only works with ILIAS 4.3.x. Do you plan to update this plugin for ILIAS 4.4.x anytime soon? If so, when will it be available?

next week I will start the upgrade the code of our platform StudOn to ILIAS 4.4.This will also include the update of our plugins. So the updated Flashcards should be available at latest by March 7th.

Thank you very much for this nice and useful learning tool! I have tried it and I found it equally interesting and useful for learning foreing languages.

As further development, I was wondering is there's any way to connect the known flashcards to an exercise-type object where students can deepen their practice by using those words orally or in written.

Dear Christina,

this is an interesting idea and I think you can already realize it with the current version. You can use the ILIAS page editor in the glossary to add media objects or links to additional exercises to the definition of a term. If you want to separate that from the answer you can add a second definition which is then shown in an "Answer 2" section of the card.

I have followed your advice and it worked well. Instead of an exercise object I used a course object that had already been created on the site where I practised. I know it works pretty much the same with the exercise.

When you referred to adding media objects have you also thought of project files created with microsoft movie maker? The extension for these files is MSWMM but I'm not sure I could add that type of file. A project file, not the movie itself that could be saved as the result of that project, let the students intervene in the story line. This creates a sort of interaction that I would like to check.

It would be very helpful to hear your opinion on that.

Hi Cristina,

the page editor allows you to add almost any kind of file type and ILIAS will transport ist to the user. Depending on your platform configuration, there may be a size limit, though.

ILIAS will transport this file to the user, but the ability to use the media depends on the capabilities of the user's device. This may be a problem if you use filetypes that are not very widespread or platform dependent. But you can discuss that with your students.

You' right!! At the beginning I thought it was a size limit or the file extension, but...I discovered what was wrong!!

First, I tried to upload an MSWMM file into a File upload Question, as an answer file to that question. Unfortunately, in my eagerness to do it,  I forgot to include the question in a test! Therefore, my "efforts" to upload the answer were not successful! And for good reasons :)!

After reading your answer, I have started again from the scratch, uploaded the respective files, both as input for questions and output for answers,  this time that type of questions being part of a test. It worked pretty well! And for good reasons :)!

Now, with the right instructions, I guess the interaction I'm expecting can be done. Windows movie maker is part of the windows package, so most of the students or users might have it installed. I will definitely check that. My ILIAS installation does not permit real time chat like in skype, so I thought of using that type of project file for tasks that require interaction. Any other idea on the topic is more than welcome!

Dear Fred,

this ILIAS-Flash-Plugin currently only works until ILIAS 5.1. Do you plan to update it for ILIAS 5.2 soon? If so, when will it be available?

unfortunately the plugin is not working in my ilias 5.2

when i try to update the given link in the plugin configuration

i get the error:

Hi Ulle,

i wasn't able to repoduce the error with the current plugin version (1.3.4) in ILIAS 5.2.4 on a PHP 7 server. Could you tell me you actual versions (ILIAS, Plugin PHP)?

Did you update the plugin from a former version of was is a fresh install? The final code line in the stack trace indicates that ilPlugin::getPluginObject() did not return the plugin class. What is shown in the plugin list for the Flashcards plugin? It should be the following:

Flashcards | xflc | RepositoryObject | Services/Repository

Please check also if all directories in the path to the plugin have a correct upper/lowercase:

Customizing/global/plugins/Services/Repository/RepositoryObject/Flashcards

But our problem is no date after a training-session (Zuletzt trainiert: Kein Datum).
Is there a problem with ilias 5.2.10?

Hello Fred,

whats your planned ETA for ILIAS 5.3 support of the plugin?

We checked out version 1.3.5 from masterbranch  and changed max version in plugin.php to 5.3.99 which seems to work fine in our testing environment (PHP7.1). Any concerns from your side?

Hi Fred,
as far as I can see, it's not possible to present the learning cards to the students in a certain order, is it?
The order should be determined in advance by the lecturer.

Hi Lina,

I implemented the Flashcards as a tiny tool for training the remembrance of knowledge that was already learned in a structured way before. I its currently based on a glossary which has only an alphabetical order of terms and it assumes that cards are independent from each other. Therefore the cards are shuffled when the training for a box starts, to prevent an artificial order given by the glossary. In a later state of the training cards are spread over different boxes  - so an inital dependence will be broken, even if the order is determined by the lecturer.
