Behind the Scenes of the ILIAS Test Case Lab: Why improving test cases costs a lot of time, but helps to make testers, maintainers AND users happy

Presented by
Fabian Kruse
ILIAS open source e-Learning e.V.
Short description
After the classic authorship model for our community test cases couldn’t keep up with testing demands, several steps were taken in 2023 to improve the situation:

- A real-life "Test Case Camp" in Karlsruhe
- Several "Test Case Lab" sessions via VC
- The "Feedback" status in TestRail to report problematic test cases during testing
- Regular "Live Testings" to discuss and solve both testing and test case issues
- A public data collection to collect the status (and issues) of our test suites

But our work has barely started!

We have DOZENS of test suites that require maintenance, and we still have to work out ways to allow MORE community members to contribute.

In this workshop, I want to give a brief overview of the work that we have done so far and present OLD and NEW ways to participate.
We will also look at concrete examples of how test cases can and should be written and how existing cases can be easily improved.
