1 Basic Sentence Case Rules

The basic rules for writing in sentence case (i.e. - normal English sentences) are much simpler than when using title case.

1) Always start a sentence with a capital letter.

2) Names (Bob), cities (Lisbon), countries (Germany), languages (French), nationalities (Swiss), religions (Jainism), days (Tuesday), months (January) and holidays (Christmas) are written with their first letter in upper case.

Other than that, avoid capital letters whenever possible!

3) Anything you write in sentence case in ILIAS should end on a full stop.

2 Special Rules

1) There are cases in ILIAS where the basic rules for sentence case are overridden and ILIAS objects and features should be written with their first letters in upper case. See the special rules for documentation and technical writing for more information.

2) Bylines are written in sentence case in order to distinguish them from their parent labels.
