Summary

Event handling in ILIAS is getting on in years and – contrary to its name – was never really event handling but rather a hook system. This leads to problems such as a component that reacts to an event from another component being able to bring down the entire system.
Where are we headed? Event handling in ILIAS is to be fundamentally redesigned. The plan is to switch to the tried-and-tested observer pattern for this purpose.
This will open up new possibilities and clearer processes, offering improved performance and more readable code for components from the ILIAS core and beyond.
