IMPORTANT: Connect Mantis and TestRail

The newest version of TestRail features an even better integration with our bugtracker Mantis. It allows for simple and fast reporting of bugs directly from  TestRail, using the "Push" functionality. In order to use this functionality, it is required to connect your Mantis user account with TestRail. All testers are required to do so before starting to execute their test cases!

Precondition

You already have both a TestRail and a Mantis user account.

Create API token in Mantis

In order to push bugs to Mantis, you will need a so-called "API token". The token will authorize you in Mantis when pushing bugs from TestRail.

  1. Open Mantis.
  2. Click on your name on the top left of the screen. (Enter your password, if required.)
  3. Mantis opens the view "My Account".
  4. Open the API Tokens tab (direct link to this tab).
  5. In the form "Create API Token" enter your desired Token Name. (Example: "TestRail token")
  6. Click on the Create API Token button.
  7. Mantis shows you the new token on your screen.
  8. Copy the token to your clipboard. You will need it for the next step.

Enter token in TestRail

  1. Open TestRail.
  2. Click on your name on the top right of the screen.
  3. TestRail opens a menu.
  4. Click on the entry My Settings.
  5. TestRail will show you the settings of your user account.
  6. Open the tab Settings.
  7. TestRail shows you a form where you can enter your Mantis data.
  8. Enter your username (Mantis Username) and the API token you just created in Mantis (Mantis API-Token).
  9. Click on the button Save Settings.
  10. TestRail can now send bugs to Mantis via the "Push" functionality.

FAQ concerning the Mantis connection

QUESTION: TestRail reports an error: "User variable "Mantis API token" has no value for the integration plugin configuration. Please enter a value under My Settings."

ANSWER: You must enter the API token correctly. Follow the instructions above and make sure to copy and paste the complete token.

QUESTION: I have misplaced the token. What should I do?

ANSWER: In Mantis, on the API token page, click the "Revoke" button in the "Actions" column. Then create a new token as described above and use it in TestRail.

QUESTION: What is the advantage of the new connection?

ANSWER: We can now push screenshots and files to Mantis. In addition, the push dialog now is simpler for testers than before.
