Language Files

The files that are used to display screen messages are located in the directory lang. You will find one file for the setup and the ILIAS application for each language there. If you want to make any changes to the screen messages / terms that are used in ILIAS you should not change these files. You can put similar files, that only contain only the changed texts into the Customizing/global/lang directory. The format of the filenames is:

• Customizing/global/lang/ilias_<language_code>.lang.local

Examples:

• Customizing/global/lang/ilias_en.lang.local

• Customizing/global/lang/ilias_de.lang.local

After you have added an adapted language file, open the ILIAS setup setup/setup.php, click on the client, that should use this file, then enter the Languages section. Activate the checkbox in column Include Local. After that, enter ILIAS, go to the administration, open section Languages and hit Refresh Languages. Now the adapted texts should be presented in ILIAS.

Please make sure, that your Apache system user has read permission to all adapted language files.
