Artificial Intelligence (AI) exploded into our lives relatively recently. The resulting shock wave (let's milk this metaphor for all it's worth) spread out to affect so many different areas of our lives and is still expanding inexorably. In the areas of work and higher education, the AI blast has already shattered the windows and knocked over the furniture. AI can answer questions, be used for homework and tests and summarise or translate long texts in a matter of seconds. It can even write software code for you. Just a few years ago all of this would have seemed like science-fiction.

Ilario Truppa is partner and Head of Operations at OC Group in Italy, one of ILIAS’s service providers, and is also actively involved with Volt Europa as Volunteer Leader of Digital Learning. It is largely thanks to his efforts that ILIAS has been successfully introduced as Volt’s LMS. In future, the ‘Volt Academy’ is set to provide training for numerous international European members on a wide range of political, social science and party-specific topics. We are delighted that Ilario agreed to an interview to tell us more about Volt’s plans for the future.

Last year I wrote my first blog post for ILIAS - covering ILIAS at Learntec. It was met with rave international reviews. [1] So anyway - far be it from me to deny my adoring fans...

With every new release, ILIAS gets a bit better... a bit clearer... a bit closer to what you need on a day-to-day basis. ILIAS 11 is no exception: lots of new functions and improvements mean that the platform is more flexible, understandable and efficient. A real community project – developed with and by you.

In just over two weeks it is that time again: the giant ILIAS cube will once more hang majestically in place.
