Call for Papers: 17. International ILIAS Conference in Lucerne
Kruse, Fabian [Fabian] - 28. Mar 2018, 10:28

The 17th International ILIAS Conference will take place on September 6th and 7th in Lucerne, Switzerland. The hosts would like to invite all users of ILIAS, as well as all those interested in e-learning generally, to actively take part in this year's conference with scientific contributions or user-reports.
Contributions can be submitted in the following core topic areas:
- Application-oriented testing with ILIAS: Assessing knowledge, skills and learning progress are everyday processes on a learning platform. But how do you test the practical application of learning using ILIAS? What would the design for such a test look like? What needs to be taken into consideration and how do you guarantee the practical relevance?
- Targeted e-learning in businesses and public authorities: Here we are looking for contributions from the area of internal and in-company continuing education looking at courses or training that were carried out successfully using ILIAS. What were the technological, content and learner-related challenges faced and how were they mastered?
- ILIAS... but different: Courses, learning modules, tests... everyone who uses ILIAS knows all of these things already. So – in this slot we want to be surprised and impressed by presentations of less well-known and not necessarily obvious usage scenarios and of seldom-used tools in ILIAS.
- More attractive – more streamlined - more performance: Here we are interested in approaches that by way of technical, design or administrative adjustments, lead to enhanced usability for a particular target group or to a more attractive interface. Examples of fast and powerful system architectures are also welcome.
- Opening up and integrating ILIAS: Increasingly, ILIAS installations are being opened up to a whole variety of user circles and usage scenarios and being combined and connected with other IT solutions and learning platforms. This slot is the place to tell us more about successful examples of opening up ILIAS in this way, the integration of external tools and services, and examples of learning platforms being combined and interlinked that have been put-into-practice.
This year, contributions can be submitted in the following formats:
- Lecture/Presentation (30'): Present your topic in a 20 – 25 minute lecture followed by a circa 5 minute discussion with your audience. All presentations in the large conference room will be simultaneously interpreted (German → English or English → German).
- Workshop (90'): After an introductory speech, the participants should actively work on a topic and present a result at the end of the session.
- Hands-on Tutorial (90'): The aim of this format is to deepen the participants' understanding of a particular feature or process. Ideally the participants should be actively engaged with the feature or process being examined.
- Best Practice Space (90'): Propose a topic together with other users and present several reports in one session. At the end, reserve some time for an open discussion.
