Prefilled Textarea in Forms

1 Requirements

Sometimes you need to explain a certain ILIAS feature to users by offering a kind of description text that clarifies what a user has to do or can do on a certain page. Example: you want to offer a data collection to users and you need to tell them what kind of data they should fill in. In a certain way this is similar to the text for the task of an assignment in an exercise. Presenting such an explaination can be supported by offering a textarea which can be filled by the author / tutor.

But for some tools and scenarios it is better to have a predefined text for such an explaination which can be easily modified for the current scenario or even overwritten by the author / tutor, e.g. hints what to do in a course with learning objectives. At the time being this is not possible. Therefore I suggest to add a new element to the form GUI which allows to offer such prefilled textareas.

The textarea is prefilled from the language file when the object is created. Once the form is saved it will be stored like any other textarea content.

4 Discussion

JF 21 Jan 2013: For the general case there is no need to do any implementation since it is possible to use predefined values from the lang file in forms. We need to discuss concrete cases were this should be introduced.
