Improving export GUI
Page Overview
[Hide]1 Description
The current status of the user interface for administrating download versions of an ILIAS learning module is not satisfying. Workflow and GUI could easily be improved.
Problems:
Suggestions:
Additional:
It might be useful for authors to get the information about outdated download versions already when entering the learning module editor - and not only when entering the Export tab. In my opinion, the importance of this information is very high. But this might require a general "Status information" concept for LM and other objects.
Problems:
- You do not see that an export version is outdated due to changes since the creation of the last download module.
- At the export tab you do not see if the Download tab is available for users - even if you have created a download version and defined it for public access.
- You cannot define two objects at once for public access. Even if there are select boxes and not radio buttons, I always need to run the workflow twice.
- If you activate "Download" as menu entry in tab "Properties" > sub menu "Menu", there is no information if there is any item to download and if this setting makes sense or if you still need to do something.
Suggestions:
- If there has been made a change in the Learning Module since the last creation of a download package, ILIAS shows a message "Outdated" behind the version.
- At the page of tab "Export" you always get a status information if the Download menu is enabled and if it is also available for non-registered users (similar to "Properties > Menu").
- Defining two or three export packages for public access is possible - as long as there are not two or more items of the same type (XML, HTML, SCORM). If so, an error message is shown.
- In "Properties > Menu" you can see if there are already download items.
- If there are no download items in at an activated Export page, the table should tell the user "At the time being there are no versions to download for you!".

4 Discussion
JF 8 Feb 2010: We highly appreciate these improvements. They should be part of the upcoming export guidelines.
5 Implementation in ILIAS 4.1
- Multiple files can be selected
- Export listing shows an info message for public files, if the export feature is not activated in the menu
- The menu properties screen shows an info message, if no export files are available
It is not possible in a performant way, to show whether an export file is outdated, since this can be due to changes in the learning module (page changed) in a referenced glossary, in a referenced media object (changed in a media pool), in a referenced content snippet (also in a media pool), ...
