Language Instructions
Some Hints
If you want to maintain an existing language or create a new translation for a language not supported yet by ILIAS, please have a look at the following hints to ease your work:
Save all changes you made in a language at the end of each translation session. This avoids that your changes might get lost due to unexpected updates.
Evaluate your translations always by testing them on your ILIAS installation. Translations are often better when you see on the screen where this text is used and for what purpose. Pure text translation without having the context can result in bad translation. If you have enabled the language maintenance tool, you can see which entry has which identifier. This makes it easier to find the language entry when you make your translation in the language file directly.
Take care to use always the same words for the same feature or function. A consistent use of terms improves the usability of the translation and the interface.
Please commit your changes frequently or send them to the ILIAS core team » info@ilias.de. Don't keep improved language files for your own but share them with the community!
