Language Instructions
Edit
If you click on a language you will be directed by ILIAS into the language maintenance tool. The first tab "Edit" allows you the edit all terms of this language. ILIAS offers you filters to select the language entries you want to translate or modify.

On top of the form you can filter the listed terms by:
- Free text – The entered text will be searched as part of the language entry
- Module – Only the language entries of the chosen module will be shown.
- Special filter – This allows you to choose a special filtering criterion:
- "All entries" will search for all entries of the specified module
- "Local changes only" will search for entries that have been changed using the language maintenance or a local language file.
- "Unchanged entries only" will search for all entries that haven't been changed.
- "Equal to compare language" show all entries that are equal to the compare language.
- "Different from compare language" show all entries that are different from the compare language.
- "With comments from language Manager" shows all entries that have a comment in the default language file. Choose the same language as compare language to view the comments.
Click [Apply Filter] to activate the chosen filter criteria. The shown entries will satisfy all the selected criteria.
The table is organized in four columns:
module: the name of the ILIAS module from which the text is used. You can get an overview of the modules on the "Statistics" tab of the language maintenance (see below).
identifier: an internal unique identifier of the text to be translated. There may be different system messages that have the same text in English, but different texts in other languages. The module and the identifier give you a hint on the purpose of a text.
Current Language: the actual texts of the maintained language are shown in input fields and can be changed. Click "Save" at the bottom of the table if you want to save your changes.
Compare Language: the last row of the table shows the same text in another of the installed system messages. The compare language can be chosen in a select box above the table. If you choose the same language as the current user language, then the unchanged default entries are shown in this column.
Click on the title of a column to sort the table alphabetically by the entries of this column. If the list of items is very long, it is divided in several pages. You may choose a certain page by clicking its number in the table footer or by clicking "<<" or ">>" to get one page backward or forward. You can change the number of items on one page in your personal profile:
Personal Desktop > Personal Profile > Settings > Hits/page in tables
