Internationalization

ILIAS handles all text related data UTF-8 encoded. PHP versions < 6 do not fully support unicode. To get the best results in ILIAS you should activate the multibyte string functions and try to activate the internationalization extension of PHP. Note that ILIAS will work without these extensions. Especially the internationalization extension maybe hard to install. Without this extension you may run into problem with alphabetical sorting of text items. For more info, see this blog post.
