4.4.9 (stable)
Release 4.4.9 has been published on May 15, 2015. ILIAS 4.4 requires PHP 5.3 or higher. Before upgrading an ILIAS installation of version 3.9 or lower to 4.4 you will need to upgrade to 3.10 first. Instructions for updating ILIAS can be found in section 3 of the general installation instructions. For major updates (e.g. 4.3.x -> 4.4.x) the safest proceeding is, to upgrade a copy of your productive system first and test whether everything works ok. The formula question type is now integrated into the standard release. If you have been using the formula question type plugin before, please carefully read the instructions on the related wiki page.

</div>Important Settings
- A new setting that controls the locking behaviour during participant's solution submits within test objects has been introduced with 4.4.7 . The setting can activate either the use of database table locks or a locking based on files. The third option is to use no locking at all (not recommended). Since ILIAS 4.4.7 the locking on database tables gets activated per hotfix script when no locking mechanism is active yet. If the filesystem behind your data directories support file locks the locking mechanism used in your installation should be changed to the file based one, because database table locks can lead to performance issues in large scenarios.
