Trunk and Branches

All ILIAS releases that are listed in the roadmap are snapshots of an ongoing software development process. These releases are prepared and packed to be installed on productive systems.
 
The software development process itself takes place in the trunk of the development system while bug fix releases are taken from the appropriate branch. Only the first two or three bug fix releases of a new version are still coming from the trunk before a new branch for this version is created (see graphic).

Between a beta release and the branch of this version it is not allowed for developers to add new features for future versions to the trunk. The trunk is only open for bug fixing. Once a branch has been made, the trunk is open again for new development activities until the first beta release of this version has been published.
